LOUISIANA, Mo. — After two weeks of virtual schooling and virtual softball practice, Van-Far took the field for their season opener on Thursday night. In their win over EMO Conference opponent, the Louisiana Lady Bulldogs, the Indians scored twelve runs and allowed none.
Devyn Keller was on the mound for the Indians, picking up her first win in shut-out fashion. Keller had command of the game from the first pitch as she placed the ball, and consistently threw strikes. Keller shut down Louisiana’s offense with 10 strikeouts in the five-inning match-up.
Starting the game for the Lady Bulldogs was Freshman pitcher Ty Campbell. Campbell allowed three runs in the first inning before ending the threat for more potential runs from an aggressive Van-Far with a strikeout. Making part-way through the second inning, Campbell transitioned to third base, and was relieved by Emily Powell. Louisiana’s defense struggled to make defensive plays throughout the game elongating innings, making it difficult to extinguish Van-Far’s offensive threats.
Van-Far will battle Elsberry on September 15 and will look to remain undefeated. Louisiana is still searching for their first win on the season and will compete in the Elsberry tournament this weekend.
