PIKE COUNTY, Mo. – Area residents are urged to keep an eye out for a man who fled from a traffic stop earlier today (Wednesday, Jan. 22).
Pike County Sheriff Stephen Korte says a search is being conducted by his office and the Missouri State Highway Patrol for James William “Bill” Lawrence, Jr.
Korte explained that Lawrence escaped on foot following a traffic stop in the area of Highway D and Highway N at about 2 p.m. today. He was last seen wearing a Carhartt jacket and blue jeans. There is an active warrant for his arrest from the state of Illinois.
While he is not known to be armed, Korte urges citizens not to engage Lawrence. Anyone who sees Lawrence or has any information about his whereabouts are urged to contact 911.
Another person in the vehicle travelling with Lawrence was taken into custody as a result of the traffic stop.
